Who We Are

Small but scrappy, Gizmocracy consists of Stephen and Ellen Beeman, plus an extensive network of friends and freelancers.

Stephen Beeman: Programming

Stephen is a 25-year veteran of the board and computer game industries. His career began at Steve Jackson Games, where he edited the Car Wars line. Moving on to computer games, he joined legendary publisher Origin Systems, directing the award-winning Wing Commander II. Since then, he's worked at The 3DO Company, Gazillion, Electronic Arts and Microsoft.

Stephen blogs on gaming, programming, hobbyist electronics and other tech topics at stebee.gizmocracy.com.

Ellen Beeman: Design and Management

Ellen has held salaried positions at Electronics Arts, Microsoft, Glu Mobile, and other game studios. As a freelancer, she worked for Disney, Sega, Leapfrog, Mary-Margaret Network, and other companies.

Prior to her games career, Ellen was a children’s television writer, and has published four novels and numerous short stories and articles.

Ellen has been a speaker at the Game Developer Conference, SXSW Interactive, LOGIN, Microsoft Gamefest, Game Design Expo, and other game industry events. When not creating games herself, she trains the next generation of game developers as a senior lecturer at DigiPen Institute of Technology. Ellen blogs about game production, usability, metrics and monetization at ellenbeeman.com.
